The Northern Circuit of Zambia is a term used to describe the numerous tourism products found in Northern, Luapula, Muchinga and parts of Central provinces. The products include heritage, cultural, wildlife and adventure and constitute waterfalls, along with nature reserves, wildlife sanctuaries, archaeological sites and national parks.

Recommended time of year to go

The ideal months to visit the northern circuit are throughout the year, although March and April, right after the rain season gives a perfect scenic view when everything is covered by the beautiful emerald green, whilst the waterfalls are at their fullest levels.

Recommended amount of time

If you are planning to visit the gorgeous sites in this circuit, take no less than 6 days if following this route and itinerary, but we would recommend taking about 10 days or more, if you have the time and want more fun!

Why the Northern waterfalls?

One advantage to the diverse water falls of the Northern circuit is that they are more interactive and along the road less travelled as compared to the Victoria falls. Swimming, camping and seeing the different parts throughout the year, together with many different rivers, affordable cost and enough to experience numerous different waterfalls within a few days!

The Waterfalls

Below are the waterfalls in the Northern Circuit.

Chipota falls, Mumbuluma falls, Musonda falls, Mulilimba falls, Ntumbachushi falls, Lumangwe falls, Kabwelume falls, Chipempe Falls, Chishimba falls (along with Mutumuna falls and Kaela falls), Kalambo Falls.

Other Tourism Sites Include

Kasanka National Park, Lavushi Manda national park, Mutinondo Wilderness, North Luangwa national park, Lake Bangweulu, Shiwa Ngandu’s Kapisha Hot Springs and the Manor House, age-old rock art paintings, First World War memorial sites, David Livingstone Memorial site, Lake Chila, Moto Moto Museum to mention a few.
